About Us:

Anise & Mychal

We met each other traveling to Iceland with friends for the 2015 SagaFest music and arts festival. We connected over a shared love of live music, a passion for lifelong learning, and a commitment to community building. We shared our first date on the night we landed back in the US and we’ve been together ever since.

A month after meeting, we were on a road trip to Montreal, cementing our love of shared adventures. After a year and a half of dating long distance between Durham, NC and Washington, DC, we decided to move in together. Our Northeast DC apartment, the original home of Club BlaxicanJew (BXJ), is where we grew a shared love of cooking meals and hosting community. Our first apartment was a great place to come home to after traveling to places like Morocco, Spain, Israel, and Portugal.

We took on a new challenge in 2016 and moved to Florida. Together, we renovated a home in Deerfield Beach and explored the Miami area, making new friends and attending festivals like Art Basel. Social justice work, family, and friends took us throughout the US, and together we tasted America’s best burger at Au Cheval in Chicago, IL, VooDoo donuts in Portland, OR, and Burns Original BBQ in Houston, TX.

Eventually, we launched the West Coast edition of Club BlaxicanJew in Sacramento, CA, along with our two dogs, Sabra Jelly and Skip The Trip. Sacramento is where we got engaged and where we first celebrated at one of our favorite R&B dance parties. we are currently exploring Life IN New York City. Throughout our relationship, we’ve enjoyed travel to Mexico, with trips to Oaxaca, Huatulco, and Mexico City. We’ve developed a special connection with Mexico City. It’s begun to feel like a home away from home which is why we’ve decided to invite all of you to CDMX for The Big Party!
